Gersande Chavez develops and leads the execution of USP's donor-funded growth and sustainability strategy, as well as longer-term plans for expansion into new offerings. She leads a team responsible for identifying prepositioning and capturing new donor-funded program within the scope of USP’s core public health offerings, including health system/ regulatory system strengthening, laboratory services, and manufacturing services/ market access. Additionally, Gersande oversees and stewards the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) function for global health programs leveraging her broad programmatic and leadership experience to drive towards the full integration of effective management through monitoring program progress, incorporating program learning and disseminating effective approaches and content to the broader global health community.
Gersande is a strategic leader focused on designing quality, cost-effective programs, raising funds, enhancing work flows and building high performing teams. She has 20 years of experience in international development and humanitarian assistance across several technical areas including global health, education, economic development, and disaster risk management throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. She comes to USP most recently as the Senior Director of New Business Development at International Medical Corps, where she built the function from the ground up and secured more than $150M in funding from USAID, CDC, the Gates Foundation and others in less than 3 years. Gersande led a team to build the capacity of more than 18 country teams across Asia and Africa to market organizational capabilities, partner with new organizations and donors, and design and roll-out new business processes. Prior to IMC, Gersande held several senior-level positions at Save the Children for nearly 10 years. She served as Director of Management Support for the International Programs group, Country Director and Associate Vice President for Latin American and the Caribbean with oversight of a portfolio of $100M annually in 6 countries.
Gersande Chavez holds an MBA in International Finance and Marketing Management and a Bachelor’s degree from McGill University.
